An emergency medicine physician is a medical doctor who specializes in the rapid evaluation, stabilization, and treatment of patients experiencing acute illness or injury. ER doctors are trained to make immediate, high‑stakes decisions, perform life‑saving interventions, and manage a wide range of urgent medical conditions. They assess patients quickly, order and interpret diagnostic tests, initiate critical treatment, and determine whether a patient can be discharged, requires admission, or needs emergency surgery.
